General Disclaimer for Therapy Services

Al-Iman Family Services (AIFS) and its affiliated therapists provide psychotherapy, counseling, and related professional services in accordance with recognized standards of practice and ethical guidelines. By engaging in services, clients acknowledge and agree to the following:

1. No Guarantee of Outcomes

Therapy is a collaborative process aimed at personal growth and emotional well-being. However, no specific results, changes in behavior, or resolution of personal issues are guaranteed.

2. Client Responsibility

Clients are solely responsible for their own actions, decisions, and behavior both during and outside of therapy sessions. AIFS and its therapists are not liable for any consequences of client conduct, including but not limited to interpersonal conflicts, harmful actions, or unlawful behavior.

3. Confidentiality and Its Limits

Confidentiality is respected in accordance with professional standards. However, confidentiality may be broken in the following circumstances:
– Risk of harm to self or others
– Suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elder, or vulnerable person
– Legal obligations (e.g., court orders, subpoenas, or statutory reporting requirements)

4. Respectful Conduct Requirement

Clients must conduct themselves respectfully during sessions. Aggressive, threatening, manipulative, or disruptive behavior toward the therapist, other clients, or third parties will not be tolerated and may result in immediate termination of services.

5. Scope of Services

Therapists provide psychological support, not legal, financial, or medical advice. Religious or spiritual perspectives may be offered when appropriate, but they do not replace clinical, legal, or judicial processes.

6. Professional Boundaries

Therapists maintain professional boundaries at all times. Out-of-session personal involvement, dual relationships, or use of therapy for purposes other than personal growth, coping, and mental health support are not permitted.

7. Legal Liability Limitation

Clients release AIFS and its therapists from liability for any direct, indirect, or consequential damages resulting from therapy participation. This includes (but is not limited to) emotional distress, relationship outcomes, employment consequences, or community disputes.

8. Emergency and Crisis Services

Therapy is not a substitute for emergency medical or crisis intervention. Clients experiencing an emergency (e.g., imminent risk of harm to self or others) must call emergency services (911 in Canada) or proceed to the nearest emergency department.

9. Supervision and Consultation

Therapists may consult with supervisors or qualified colleagues for professional development and case support, while protecting client confidentiality as much as possible.

10. Acceptance of Terms

By engaging in therapy, the client confirms that they understand these limitations and disclaimers, and agree to hold harmless AIFS and its therapists from any claims, disputes, or legal actions arising from participation in therapy.

11. Use of Professional Experience in Publications

The therapist may draw upon professional experiences, clinical knowledge, and general themes observed in practice for the purposes of education, training, public speaking, writing, and publishing (including articles, books, or online content such as the AIFS website).

– No identifying information about any client will ever be disclosed.
– Details used in publications are modified, generalized, or combined to protect privacy and ensure strict confidentiality.
– Publications are intended for educational and professional development purposes only and are not case-specific reports of individual clients.

By engaging in therapy, clients acknowledge that while their experiences may inform the therapist’s professional reflections and writings, their personal privacy and confidentiality will always remain protected.
